Winner winner, FRIED chicken dinner! Well folks, Monday Sept 16th I took part in Saskatoon Blues Society’s “Road to Memphis” challenge. It was a battle of the bands style contest for a chance to go to the International Blues Challenge in 2025, and I WON! This means I will go to Memphis in January to represent Saskatoon at the IBC.
It has been 13 years since I was last in Memphis for the IBC. Man, time flies. I am very excited about heading back down there and performing on Beale Street. I have taken part in the IBC twice before. The first time in 2010 with The Suffering’ Bastards and again in 2012 when I performed solo. On both the previous trips I also holed up in a recording session. The first trip resulted in Redemption and the second in The Shack Up Sessions. I have been busy emailing folks over the past week to reconnect with some musical friends down there and it is starting to look like I will once again find a place to record some music while I am in the area. Folks, I never thought I would make another record. I’m still not sure why I am, but It looks that way and it has me excited. I’m woodshedding old tunes and writing new ones to take with me. Currently, it is unclear if this will be a solo recording or will include a band. Perhaps both? I will keep you updated as it comes together.
In the meantime, we will be firing up the big, annoying, fundraising trumpet to gather as many dollar bills together as we can for the trip and recording sessions. I have set up a fundraiser button through my PayPal and I encourage you to check it out. Donate if you can, if you aren’t in a position to do that, a share with your pals goes a long way in helping me get there. Currently, our first fundraiser is at Bud’s on Broadway on Wednesday Oct 23rd. I will perform a full solo set and then I believe the Blue Mules will finish the night out. More details to follow as they unfold. On Nov 7th I will perform two solo sets at Somewhere Else Pub from 6-830. We will be making this fund-raiser as well. Stay tuned for details.
As always I appreciate the support and it sure feels good to remember that a lot of people care and believe in what I do. Thank you for being in my corner. Big Love!
